It’s official – I’ll be at Lawrence Art in the Park 2007

Art in the Park, 2006I’ve been accepted to show my artwork at the 46th Annual Lawrence Art in the Park on Sunday, May 6. The show will feature over 150 artists displaying artwork in a variety of medias. There will be live band performances and children’s art activities – a perfect Sunday outing for the family!

The fair is being held at South Park, 12th and Massachusetts in Lawrence. Check back – I’ll post more info about the event as the date draws closer.

It’s Official – I’ll be at Town Art Show 2007

I received an email from Sue Hunter, Town Art Show President, notifying me that I was accepted to show my artwork this summer. I participated in last year’s Town Art Show over Father’s Day weekend. The event brought out over 40,000 visitors and helped raised money for The Parkinson’s Foundation of the Heartland.
The Town Art Show is located in Leawood, Kansas at Town Center Plaza mall. This year’s show runs from June 15-17.

In the Studio – 2.10.2007

I’m still recovering from the sinus surgery (I had a minor setback, see more below); so I haven’t spent much artistic time in the studio lately . . . I’ve mainly been working on the administrative stuff. I mailed out all of my summer art fair entries today, including: Town Arts Show and Prairie Village Arts Show (both in KC), Smoky Hill River Festival in Salina, and Art in the Park in Lawrence. If anyone out there knows of a show I should enter – please leave me a comment. I’m always looking for new opportunities!

Thanks to the fantastic photography of Gary Jones (President/Creative Director at Jones Huyett Partners), I have fantastic slides to enter this year . . . so I’m feeling really good about my chances of being accepted! For those of you not familiar with the summer art fair process, every artist has to submit slides of their artwork to be judged by a panel of jurors. This panel decides who actually makes the show. For most of the summer shows I’m entering, there 500-1,000 other artist competing for 100-120 spots. Who said the art circuit wasn’t competitive . . ?

As I mentioned above, I had a setback on Wednesday regarding my sinus surgery recovery. I won’t go into all of the details, but let’s just say it wasn’t pleasant. I missed the last 2 days of work – I was sitting at home in my recliner, dripping a nasty salt-water solution from my nose. Today’s been better; I think I’ve mastered the dripping problem.

2006 Lawrence Holiday Art Fair – A Success!

Lawrence Holiday Art FairThanks to the “husband-of-the-year” efforts made by Brandon, I was able to exhibit artwork at this year’s Lawrence Holiday Art Fair at the Lawrence Art Center on Saturday, December 2. The Holiday Art Fair is an annual show put on by the Lawrence Art Guild featuring original artwork created by local artist.

After being stuck at home sick for two weeks, I had admitted defeat and realized I wasn’t going to be able to muster the strength or stamina to do a show, let alone install & remove it. Two days before the event my husband volunteered to do the whole thing by himself. Thanks to that effort we sold a painting and I got invited to do a solo show at the Lawrence Public Library in August of 2007.
