I’m Trying Not to be Bitter

Hold onto your hats everyone, I’m about to unleash my first rant.

What does a girl have to do to get into the Mulvane Art Fair at Washburn?

For the past 3 years I have applied, and for the past 3 years I’ve received the “thanks, but no thanks letter”. And each year I go to the fair, and can’t make any sense as to why some work was chosen to be shown and others not.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s not like I think my artwork is superior or that I should get into every art show that I apply. But the Mulvane show is in my own town, at my own alma mater, where I graduated with honors and a Fine Arts degree. I’ve got experience. I show my artwork all around Kansas, and have had decent success. And I’ve always sold well when I show artwork in Topeka – people here are starting to recognize my name and style.

I’m sure some people are probably thinking, ‘maybe you had bad slides’. But I know for a fact that they were not. My slides were shot by our photographers at jhP, both of which have lots of experience shooting artwork specifically for slides. Gary’s been doing that since his college days.

So what can it possibly be?
