In the Studio – 8.12.2007

Since I finished hanging my show at the Lawrence library, I’ve been able to put my full focus on my commission pieces again. On Monday of last week I completed a big yellow flower painting (acrylic on plexiglass, of course). Right now I’m about halfway through another piece that has lots of blue flowers.
I’ve also been working on a series of sketches for another commission series.
Next weekend Brandon and I will be going to art auctions on Friday & Saturday night. Friday is the long-awaited Works of Heart auction for the Family Service & Guidance Center at Washburn University. The event will get started at 6pm with cocktails and live music. Dinner will begin at 7:15pm, with live auction starting at 8:30pm.
On Saturday night, we will be going to the Topeka AIDS Project Benefit Auction Gala at the Ramada Inn. The festivities begin with cocktails at 6pm with silent and live auctions. I’ve never been to the Gala before, but I’m excited to go! Josh from J. & Co. Frameshop will also be going – I’m sure we will have some good laughs!

Paradise - Acrylic on PlexiglassHere’s a photo of my most recent painting, Paradise. It is currently on display at J. & Co. Frameshop, but it will also be featured in my upcoming Lawrence show in the Library’s Gallery.
I’ve got 2 big paintings in the works, 2 more lined up when those are finished, and ideas for a whole new show . . . now all I need is a week or two of vacation so I can paint!

In the Studio – 6.28.2007

I’ve been putting in a lot of hours at jhP lately, so I haven’t spent as much time in the studio as I would like. But I plan on making up for it this weekend! I am starting to work on paintings for my next show at the Lawrence Library in August. I hope to have 5 new pieces ready, but I’ve got a couple of commission pieces that I need to fit in there . . . so we’ll see!
I have several charitable events coming up in the next 2 months – "Works of Heart" for the Family Service and Guidance Center, "The Grape Escape" for the Topeka Performing Arts Center, and the second annual Boots & Bling at the Kansas State Fair to benefit the House of Capper. I’ll post more about each event as they get closer.

Back in the Studio – 5.25.07

After a two-week hiatus, I have started painting again. It’s nice to set at my art table and let my imagination flow – it’s very calming. I’ve got so many things that I want to paint right now . . . I’m really looking forward to the holiday weekend!
I am working on an ocean landscape right now. It’s going to look great over my couch – even if it’s only up for awhile.

“Good Day, Sunshine” at Cafe Trio – Show Preview

We spent the afternoon in Kansas City hanging artwork for my Cafe Trio show.  The process went prettyChris, Alissa, Greg smoothly thanks to the help of Chris, co-owner and expert artwork hanger, and Greg, marketing coordinator and visionary in exhibit layout.  I am really looking forward to the opening reception on Thursday; the artwork looks great in the space with their excellent accent lighting!  Check out a couple of preview photos on my new gallery page Hang Show at Cafe Trio.  Â
